What better time than a gray December day to document the equally gray rocks of Monroe City? These rocks helped shape Monroe City. Over the years, they have supported commerce, provided shelter, enabled transportation, and offered recreation. In an age of concrete and steel construction, we often overlook this natural resource which truly helped form the foundation for an evolving society. Many of the rock structures of Monroe City are now gone, victims of age and more refined modern needs. These photos were all taken during the last week of December 2009 and provide a unique insight into the history of Monroe City. Our hope is that these photos will serve as a reminder that Monroe City Rocks!
